Council member Sweeney takes command of sea cadets

Feb. 26, 2010 - Council member Tom Sweeney will take the helm of the Battleship Wisconsin Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps at a change of command ceremony Sunday.

The cadet corps, according to the press release, teaches youths "mental, moral and physical training through naval and related instruction."

Sweeney, chief warrant officer, takes over for Lieut. (junior grade) Werner L. Gade. The ceremony is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the La Crosse Center.

Why is Sweeney referred to as a Chief Warrant Officer? I know he is a retired First CLass Petty Officer

And LTJG on the Battleship Wisconsin Division web page. Maybe an automatic promo or honary for the position. Either way, hopefully he'll be able to keep track of the anchors there...
